18-02-2014: VISIT OF THE EUROPEAN COMMISSIONER FOR THE HOME AFFAIRS MS CECILIA MALMSTROM TO THE FIRST RECEPTION SERVICE

Visit of the European Commissioner for the Home Affairs, Ms.Cecilia Malmström to the First Reception Service 

 

The European Commissioner expressed that she was impressed and congratulated the Director and the Service’s staff for their systematic effort

 

Ms Cecilia Malmström, European Commissioner for the Home Affairs of the European Union, during her visit to the First Reception Service (F.R.S.), of the Ministry of Public Order and Citizen protection, expressed her impression in the framework of an informative meeting with the F.R.S. Director, Mr. Panagiotis Nikas, on Monday February the 17th, 2014.

 
Mr Nikas presented the work made especially with regard to the First Reception Service (F.R.S.) operation at Fylakio and the preparation of the F.R.C. on Lesvos island, the mobile units, and the accommodation structures of the asylum seekers, as well as for the unaccompanied minors and the vulnerable groups. There were also referred to the first reception procedures as they are operating to the corresponding F.R.C. 


It was pointed out the importance attributed to the respect of the rights and the dignity of the third country nationals that enter the country without the legal formalities, during their transferee to First Reception procedures to the F.R.S. and to the mobile units as well, despite the difficult times prevailing in Greece. 


Ms Cecilia Malmström congratulated the Director and the F.R.S. staff, for their systematic effort concerning the designing and the operation of the Service. She also expressed her satisfaction for the application of the First Reception procedures and from the implemented design regarding the Open Accommodation Facilities of the asylum seekers, unaccompanied minors and vulnerable persons.

 

Furthermore, she expressed her impression from the total effort pointing out that: “now the foundations of a new mentality are set, as well as a new perspective regarding the administration of the mixed immigration flows and it is also taking place an exemplary effort for the systematization of the actions in terms of fully respect of the human dignity.”

She also outlined that there is a totally recognition of the attribution of the F.R.S. and of the “
hugeprogress that have been made during a short period, something of high importance, proving that E.U contribution have found breeding ground.

 

The Commissioner leaved committing herself for the continuity of the provided support from the part of the E.U. in the future.
