  Visit of the Denmark Ambassador, Ms Mette Knudsen to the First Reception Service

 

The Denmark Ambassador, Ms. Mette Knudsen, was welcomed at the First Reception Services' premises by the Director of the Service, Mr. Panagiotis Nikas.

The Ambassador visited the First Reception Service in order to be informed for the reception conditions of the third country nationals who cross the Hellenic borders without legal documents, as well as for issues regarding the asylum seekers and the unaccompanied minors. «The last months’ increase of migratory flows in relation to the persisting crisis in Syria is a key concern of the Parliament and the wider public debate in Denmark», pointed out, among other issues, Ms Mette Knudsen. The Director of FRS, Mr. Panagiotis Nikas, accounted  for the procedures and the first reception conditions as well as for the access conditions to benefits such as health services, education,accommodation, etc. In addition, Mr. Nikas, pointed out, that the unaccompanied minors and the vulnerable persons as well, should be beneficiary, irrespective of the submission or not of the Asylum application. On the part of Ms. Knudsen, she highlighted the differences of the benefits system of her country, as in Denmark the Asylum application consist a necessary prerequisite for the social care of the immigrant.

Finally, Mr. Nikas referred to the Service design and the entity of two other First Reception Centers as well as the establishment of a third First Reception Unit and the creation of 1500 accommodation posts to open accommodation facilities.
